Excuse Me While I Pick My Jaw Up Off Of The Floor

Excuse me while pick my jaw up off of the floor. I’m just in mommy-shock. See? O_O

There must be a lot going on in that little brain of his. Chazz has been busy checking off the milestones these days.

I have been signing to Chazz for about two months, and I think we’ve had our first breakthrough. He has signed “milk” to me while nursing for a few days now. The first time, we were nursing and he was impatiently waiting for milk. He looked up at me like, “Hello, Mom! I’m wasting away to nothing here! Where’da milk!?

And then signed to me!
I mean, he meant it, y’alI! There was intent behind those big brown eyes!

I didn’t think he would catch on until he was a lot older, but again, he has left me stunned by his pure genius! I hope he catches on to the other two signs we have been working on, for “eat” and “done”

Oh, but he doesn’t dare stop there! I walk into the living room on Friday, where I left him SITTING, to find him pulling up on the couch. STANDING! I didn’t even have time to think, I just ran over and swooped him up in my arms.

My baby can’t possibly be ready to stand. Or fall.

Some firsts are more fun than others. Yesterday, we spent the entire day with his Godmomma. And knocked a first right outta the water. Literally.

Chazz got to splash his toes in some real Montana creek water. It wasn’t his ideal temperature, but he enjoyed digging his heels in the shoreline and quick dips of his toes in the water. Another first! Gone!

Throw all of that in with The First Tooth sighting and worm crawling e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e, and its enough to make a momma go nuts.

Cut it out already, Little Man! Won’t you just stay my little baby forever??

Thankful on Thursday

I am quite thankful for more than a few things in my life right now. I like to take time out to remeber how lucky we are, but sometimes in all of the chaos, it is easy to forget!

The most important is that we are all happy, healthy, and loved. Roman got his job back after being laid off for 6-ish months. Chazz’s eye appointments are going well. We are thismuch closer to finding out just how well he can see out of his left eye. And we are finally settling into our new home.

I’m thankful that I get to stay a stay at home mom. I really admire those working women, but I’m not ready for that. Yet. I feel like I’m finally settling into a routine that works. Both with Chazz’s day, and mine. Some days I get a lot done, some days, not so much. But that’s ok!

I’m really thankful that it is officially Summer. And I can take Little Man outside to play. And swim. And we can shop and go to the Farmer’s Market. Ahh!… I have so many plans for this summer.

There is a lot to be thankful for! All the little things are a good reminder of that…<3

Adventures In Solids

I’ve had a lot of fun introducing Mr. Chazz to solids. And since, his eating habits have changed a lot. I think it is due to his age, a growth spurt, and that he is sleeping longer at night {most of the time!}

Since I have the need to schedule and plan everything, I spent the afternoon glued to wholesomebabyfoods.com. I wrote out his meal plans, daily requirements, and even a list of what I need to make more of. {Ya, I like to be prepared.} From all that jazz, here is where we are with solids these days.

-Chazz’s Daily Intake-
1/2 C Cereal (rice and oatmeal)
1/4 C Fruit
1/4 C Veggies
Breastmilk on demand- about 28 ozs

To make sure he gets all if that in, I break down the solids like this:

BREAKFAST- 2 T fruit and 4 T oatmeal.
LUNCH- 2 T fruit, 2 T veggie, and 2 rice cereal.
DINDIN- 2 T veggie and 2 T rice cereal.

Keep in mind, Chazz is fed by demand. If he eats all his food and wants more, he gets it. And if he doesn’t finish it all, that’s ok too!

To make sure he is getting a good variety of foods in, I use “O.Y.G.” to keep track. Orange, Yellow, Green refers to the color of the food. He has at least one of every color each day. For example, he might have apple-pear sauce (yellow), Bananacado (green, yellow), and sweet potatoes (orange). Its just an easy way for me to keep it balanced.

I won’t bore you with the entire list of foods he has eaten or my grocery list, but he eats the basic stage one fruits and veggies. Except green beans, poor Little Man’s tummy did not like green beans. And I tried to give him chicken, but we both gagged at the mere smell of the opened jar, so he’s my little vegetarian for now. Maybe we’ll both get the guts to try it soon!

One Little Tooth

It suprises me how fast this first tooth is coming in! Saturday, when I first felt it, it was just a speck. And now, just THREE days later, the whole top ridge has broken through! The Little Man is growing right before our eyes. I usually try to ignore the fact, but that cute little pearly white is a constant reminder that he is.

To tell you the truth, this milestone kind of snuck up on me. I knew he was about that age. And has been a little more cranky than usual. But other than than that, it wasn’t really on my mommy radar. In retrospect, I missed a couple unexpected clues that he was, in fact, teething.

The drool was a definate sign. This last month, the faucet has been on! Chazz’s onesies quickly get drenched around the neckline. I’m constantly wiping drool off of that double chin for fear of a rash. I would keep a bib on the boy, but you all know how much Chazz and I love bibs!

His fingers have been constantly in his mouth this last week. I thought he was just switching it up from the thumb. But oh no! Those baby fingers were just backup teethers. Feeling around. Scoping out new territory.

Lip smacking. Again, I thought it was just a new trick. But he’s been using that bottom lip as a teether too. All the little faces he makes when smacking his lips are the best!

Boob biting. Ok not really biting yet, but more like gumming. Painful gumming. Ouch. We take a little nursing break along with a firm “no.” I’m hoping he’ll learn before the teeth actually come in. So cross your fingers for me, mmkay?

Though it’s happening a lot sooner and faster than I imagined, that pearly white is adorable. Maybe with the next baby, I’ll have a clue on what to look for!

Because Sometimes, I Do Actually Cook

I thought I would share this recipe that I adapted from a Whole Foods Market recipe. I love Whole Foods, I even use their app so I have recipes on hand at the store. This recipe was quick to make (which is important when you have to keep up with Little Man!), and I loved the tangy lime flavor!

Citrus Bow Tie Pasta

What I Used:
1/2 lb bowtie pasta
1 Roma tomato
1 Avocado
3 Green onions
1/4 C Feta cheese
1 Lime
3 Tbsp. Olive oil
Garlic salt and pepper, to taste

What I Did:
-Boil pasta according to package directions.
-Meanwhile, dice both the tomato and avocado, and chop the green onions.

-Combine with drained pasta, and toss with olive oil, Feta, and spices. Squeeze lime over pasta.

-Chill about an hour and serve.

This would be good for a potluck or side dish, but I think it is perfect for lunch on those summer days where it’s just too hot to eat! Maybe with a watermelon and ice cold sun tea. (Can you tell I grew up in the south?) Enjoy!

Happy Father’s Day, Roman!

It is my wonderful husband’s first Father’s Day! Besides being the sweetest hubby ever, he happens to be an amazing dad as well. (I know, I know, I scored!) The way Chazz giggles with his daddy makes me melt! He may be Momma’s Boy, but he is above all, Daddy’s Dude. The best play buddies! There are times only Roman can console him, and now that Chazz can ask for him by name, it has become that way even more so! The love that beams from Roman as he holds his son is priceless. One of my great hopes for Chazz is that he has a big ol’ heart like his daddy.

From the moment Roman held Chazz, it has been love. A love that has only grown stronger, and will continue to grow with time.

Some Reasons Why My Daddy Rocks:

He snuggles! Lots! Even when holding a newborn can be kinda scary!

He lets me NomNom on his nose. Lots!

He even pushes me in the stroller with style!

Don’t we look like trouble?!

And Dads are always there. Even for your first MRI.

Little Man is pretty dang lucky!
